This early work by Lucy Maud Montgomery was originally published in 1908 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'Anne of Green Gables' is a novel about an orphaned girl and her adoption by a pair of siblings. Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on 30th November 1874, New London, in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. Her mother, Clara Woolner (Macneil), died before Lucy reached the age of two and so she was raised by her maternal grandparents in a family of wealthy Scottish immigrants. In 1908 Montgomery produced her first fulllength novel, titled 'Anne of Green Gables'. It was an instant success, and following it up with several sequels, Montgomery became a regular on the bestseller list and an international household name. Montgomery died in Toronto on 24th April 1942.

Loved it. Very touching, heart warming book. Made me laugh out loud one minute and cry my eyes out the next. The characters are so believable and you care about them passionately. The Blythe family are beautiful and Dog Mondays devotion to Jem in WW1 made me cry non stop. Couldn't put it down. Humorous & heart breaking. What a writer!

I never read any of these books when I was younger, so I'm sorta catching up. They're lovely stories, very atmospheric of the old days in early America country folks, and quite heartwarming. The characters are warm and real, and you find you get swept into their lives. Lovely nostalgia reading.

I absolutely love the book, it's very funny. I'm right in the middle and just can't wait till I have time to read more.would certainly recommend it.
